OpenAI raises GPT-6.1 Sol default context length to 500,000 tokens

PANews, October 12 — Tibo Sottiaux, head of OpenAI Codex, posted on X that when using GPT-6.1 Sol through Codex and ChatGPT Work, the default context length has been raised from 272,000 tokens to 500,000 tokens, an increase of about 80%, which helps reduce the occurrence of context compaction and is better suited to tasks that require retaining a large amount of context over long periods. Users can still adjust it themselves, and GPT-6.1 Sol has a maximum context length of 1 million tokens. He said the default context length will be further increased in the future.
