THORChain Announces Full Unlocking of RUNE Token Supply
THORChain, a cross-chain exchange protocol, has announced that its native token, RUNE, has been fully unlocked. This development marks a significant milestone for the protocol, which initially launched with a supply of 1 billion tokens. Over time, the total supply has decreased, with the current amount standing at 360 million RUNE following a series of token burns.
In May, THORChain executed a burn of 64.4 million RUNE from its reserves, further reducing the token supply from 500 million. The protocol's revenue distribution model requires nodes to bind RUNE to secure the network, allowing them to earn 59% of the system's revenue generated from user fees during cross-chain exchanges. Additionally, 20% of the revenue is allocated to the protocol's liquidity.
Every three days, THORChain deposits RUNE into the liquidity pool that has the highest relative depth of fees, with half of the deposited amount retained in RUNE by the protocol. This strategy aims to enhance liquidity and ensure the stability of the THORChain ecosystem.
