Kalshi Investigates Early Bets on Trump’s Appointment of White House Press Secretary

Kalshi, a prediction market platform, is examining several trades that accurately predicted Donald Trump's appointment of Katie Zacharia as White House Press Secretary prior to the official announcement. Trump confirmed Zacharia's appointment in a post on Truth Social on October 6, 2026, where she succeeded Karoline Leavitt.

Before the media reported on Zacharia's candidacy, at least three bets totaling approximately $173 were placed on Kalshi. These bets are expected to yield a total payout of about $9,600 after settlement. One bet of around $19 was made at 10:42 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, with an anticipated payout of $1,896. Two additional bets of approximately $74 and $80 were placed at 1:41 PM on Friday, with expected payouts of $3,689 and $4,023, respectively.

Prior to the announcement, Kalshi traders had assigned a mere 1% probability to Zacharia's appointment. This investigation follows a settlement reached in August 2026 by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission with a former White House teleprompter operator who had engaged in trading on markets related to Trump's speeches on the same platform.
