Personal AI Agent Instinct Sees Rapid User Growth and Computing Power Demand

Noah Shinn, the founder of Personal AI Agent Instinct, reported that the company's user base is expanding at a rate of approximately 10% to 11% daily. This surge in users has resulted in a corresponding demand for computing power, which is nearly doubling each week. Shinn has indicated that he now dedicates about 40% of his time to strategizing the procurement of computing resources to keep pace with this rapid growth.

Shinn explained that the challenge lies in synchronizing the acquisition of computing power with user growth. He noted that simply doubling the current computing capacity would be depleted in about a week, while purchasing five times the current amount would last less than three weeks. A tenfold increase would require a significant upfront investment. Additionally, he highlighted that many resources must be booked months in advance, and the costs for temporary computing power can be three to four times higher than standard rates.

The founder emphasized the importance of careful planning, as underestimating computing needs could hinder growth, while overestimating could lead to inflated costs if user growth slows. He anticipates that even if the daily growth rate decreases to between 5% and 8%, the company may still need to prepare for a user base of 100 million within the next few months. Shinn believes that scaling the personal AI agent is more complex than scaling consumer internet products like Instagram and Facebook, due to the high demand for model inference from each new user. He noted that the current scaling speed of Instinct is outpacing previous experiences with similar technologies such as Claude Code and Codex.
