RockawayX Invests $150 Million to Launch Catapult Program for On-Chain Real-World Assets

Digital asset investment firm RockawayX has announced a significant investment of $150 million to launch the Catapult program, which aims to integrate private credit and other yield-generating real-world assets into blockchain technology. The firm, which manages approximately $2 billion in assets, believes that lending associated with the real economy will emerge as one of the largest markets within the cryptocurrency sector.

Catapult will offer a range of services including venture capital, product structuring, liquidity provision, market making, and distribution support for tokenized credit products. RockawayX has been active in the crypto space, operating early-stage venture funds and market-neutral funds that provide liquidity to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. In August, the firm also acquired the crypto hedge fund Relayer.

The market for tokenized real-world assets, which includes bonds, stocks, and funds, has rapidly expanded to around $38 billion, with over half of this amount represented by tokenized money market funds. RockawayX anticipates that this market could grow to between $10 trillion and $20 trillion by 2030, surpassing the $5.5 trillion forecast made by Citigroup analysts. The Catapult program will specifically target sectors such as trade and supply chain finance, asset-backed securities, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), and real estate-related credit.

Viktor Fischer, CEO of RockawayX, emphasized that the future of on-chain transactions will heavily rely on yields, necessitating new sources of returns exceeding 12% that are not correlated with the cryptocurrency market. He noted that the integration of low-liquidity assets into blockchain ecosystems could provide market makers with opportunities to create exit channels, even when the underlying investments have extended redemption periods.
