Security Vulnerability in Aave V3 Loop Safe Module Leads to Theft of 114.09 ETH
Slow Fog has issued a security alert regarding a vulnerability in the Aave V3 Loop Safe Module, which has resulted in the theft of approximately 114.09 ETH from two multi-signature wallets. The vulnerability allowed attackers to forge Safe authentication, enabling them to execute arbitrary module transactions.
The attackers exploited the vulnerability by creating a forged Safe that consistently returned true, which allowed them to bypass authentication. They utilized a router and calldata that could be manipulated to transfer wrapped Ether (weETH) and Aave collateral.
Following the theft, the attackers repaid around 1300 WETH in debt, which subsequently unlocked the collateral. This incident highlights significant security concerns within decentralized finance platforms, emphasizing the need for enhanced protective measures.
