Sophon Sets Deadline for Asset Withdrawals Ahead of Mainnet Shutdown
Sophon, an entertainment-focused Layer 2 network built on zkSync's ZK Stack technology, has announced that users must withdraw their assets by November 25, 2026, before the mainnet shuts down on November 30, 2026. After the withdrawal deadline, the network's bridges and RPC nodes will be retired, rendering any remaining assets permanently inaccessible.
The decision to shut down the mainnet follows a strategic reevaluation by Sophon's developers, who determined that the operational costs of approximately $3.4 million annually were unsustainable without a robust user base. New deposits were disabled on June 25, 2026, and activity on the chain has significantly decreased since then. Users are advised to withdraw assets from Sophon farms and claim any outstanding staking and Guardian rewards before the deadline.
Sophon initially raised between $60 million and $70 million in funding but now faces a market capitalization of only $9 million to $10 million. The SOPH token, which previously served as a means for gas fees and staking, will transition to a new model tied to revenue from upcoming consumer finance and AI applications on Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 network. This shift includes plans for token buybacks and burns, with a fixed total supply of 10 billion tokens.
