XRP Futures Trading Volume Reaches Six-Month High Amid Price Surge
XRP futures trading volume surged to over $64.6 billion in August, marking the highest monthly total since February. This increase in derivatives activity coincided with a significant price rise for XRP, which climbed nearly 30% during the month, starting at $1.06 and peaking at $1.50 on August 24 before settling around $1.35.
Binance led the surge in futures trading, accounting for approximately $37 billion of the total volume. Other platforms like Bybit and OKX followed, with $14.54 billion and $12.88 billion in futures volume, respectively. Spot trading also saw a notable increase, with Binance reporting $7.28 billion in spot volume, while South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb Korea contributed $4.68 billion and $2.59 billion, respectively.
The renewed interest in XRP is attributed to two main factors: increased accumulation by large holders, or whales, ahead of a critical vote scheduled for September 15, and the introduction of ETF products that have begun attracting institutional capital. Despite the price increase, the futures market displayed a mix of long and short positions, indicating that traders are not uniformly optimistic about the asset's future.
