Abu Dhabi arbitration centre caseload up by two-thirds

Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre (ArbitrateAD) has reported its highest caseload since it began operations in February 2024.

New filings in the first six months of 2026 rose by two-thirds year on year to 20 with the total value of disputes reaching AED985 million ($268 million), the independent arbitration institution said in a statement.

Most arbitrations were conducted in English, reflecting the global profile of the businesses and disputes filed.

The centre has handled 122 matters since its inception, with 31 cases received in 2024 and 40 in 2025.

Ali bin Harmal Aldhaheri, chairman of ArbitrateAD, said the centre’s ambition is not simply to increase the number of cases it administers, but to build an internationally respected institution. “The expansion of our services into mediation and adjudication is part of that ambition, giving businesses greater choice in how they prevent and resolve disputes,” he said.

In June Abu Dhabi Registration Authority data showed that the number of new economic licences issued in the emirate jumped by more than one-fifth year on year in the first quarter of 2026, despite the Iran war.

However, Fitch Ratings projected in May that the UAE’s real GDP would shrink by 4.8 percent in 2026, while non-oil GDP was expected to contract by 3.2 percent.

In October the UAE cabinet approved the federal budget for 2026, with estimated revenue of AED92.4 billion and similar, balanced expenditure.
