Nasdaq Surges to New All-Time High Amid AI Rally and Crude Oil Decline

      Key Highlights

      • The Nasdaq achieved its first record closing high since June during Monday’s session, propelled by artificial intelligence enthusiasm and declining crude prices
      • Meta experienced an 11% surge following its Muse AI agent application claiming the top position on Apple’s App Store
      • Iranian officials signaled willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week, triggering a sharp decline in oil markets
      • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent characterized US-China preliminary trade discussions as highly productive
      • Bowersock Capital Partners CEO lowered her S&P 500 forecast to 7,800, citing elevated interest rates as a headwind for equities

U.S. equity markets are positioned for another positive session on Tuesday morning, building on Monday’s momentum that propelled the Nasdaq to fresh record territory.

Stock futures show gains across major indices. The Nasdaq 100 futures have advanced 0.2%, S&P 500 futures are trading marginally higher, and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures have added approximately 106 points, representing a 0.2% gain.

Two primary catalysts drove the market advance: increasing enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence technology and a significant decline in crude oil prices linked to diplomatic developments in the Middle East.

Artificial Intelligence Enthusiasm Propels Technology Sector

Meta Platforms emerged as Monday’s standout performer, soaring 11% after its Muse AI agent application claimed the top position on Apple’s App Store. This impressive gain provided momentum for the broader group of mega-cap technology stocks collectively known as the Magnificent Seven.

The robust showing in technology stocks reinforced bullish sentiment regarding AI semiconductor demand. This enthusiasm contributed to the Nasdaq’s climb to its strongest close since June.

AI sentiment received additional support from constructive US-China trade negotiations. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent characterized the initial discussions as highly successful, with both sides concluding talks in preparation for an anticipated summit between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Artificial intelligence collaboration emerged as one of several discussion topics, further enhancing the optimistic market atmosphere.

The bullish sentiment emanating from U.S. markets extended to Asian trading sessions. Both Japan’s Nikkei index and South Korea’s KOSPI posted gains on Tuesday.

Crude Markets Decline on Iran Strait Reopening Reports

Oil prices experienced a substantial decline following reports that Iran expressed willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, contingent upon the United States reducing military pressure in the region.

Brent crude slipped beneath the psychologically significant $100 threshold, trading around $99.75. West Texas Intermediate declined approximately 2% to $93.80. The energy complex had already recorded four consecutive days of losses entering Tuesday’s session.

A high-ranking Iranian diplomat informed Japan’s Kyodo News that prospects for reaching an agreement exist, while emphasizing that Washington must demonstrate genuine commitment for diplomatic progress to continue.

Oil markets exhibited some volatility during early trading as market participants weighed reports of escalating Houthi militant activity in Saudi Arabia, maintaining an element of geopolitical risk.

While the overall market tone remains constructive, some analysts are expressing caution regarding equities’ trajectory. Emily Bowersock Hill, CEO of Bowersock Capital Partners, reduced her S&P 500 price target to 7,800, cautioning that elevated interest rates represent a significant headwind for stock valuations.

The S&P 500 concluded Monday’s session just below 7,765. Current Treasury yield levels, she noted, create meaningful competition for equity investments.

KB Home and AutoZone are scheduled to release quarterly results on Tuesday during an otherwise light week for economic data releases.
