U.S. Home Prices Experience Strongest Annual Growth in a Year

In August 2026, U.S. home prices increased by 3.7% compared to the same month last year, marking the fastest annual growth rate observed in a year, as reported by real estate brokerage Redfin. This rise reflects a notable shift in the housing market, although month-over-month growth remained modest at just 0.25%.

San Francisco, California, saw the most significant annual price increase, with home values rising by 12%. Conversely, Dallas, Texas, experienced a decline, with prices falling by 1.4%. Redfin indicated that the slower pace of monthly growth is providing potential buyers with greater leverage in negotiations, suggesting a shift in market dynamics as buyers navigate their options.
