Strategy (MSTR) Adds 334 Bitcoin to Push Holdings Past 848,000 BTC
TLDR
- Between October 1-4, Strategy acquired 334 Bitcoin at a cost of $28.7 million, averaging $85,838 per coin.
- The company’s Bitcoin treasury now stands at 848,000 BTC, valued at approximately $73 billion.
- Financing came from selling $15.7 million in MSTR shares and using $13 million from existing cash reserves.
- The firm simultaneously repurchased 1.7 million preferred STRC shares worth approximately $176 million.
- MSTR shares traded around $163, gaining roughly 2% daily and 30% monthly.
Shares of Strategy climbed close to 2% on Monday, reaching approximately $163 after the company disclosed its latest Bitcoin acquisition. Michael Saylor’s enterprise purchased 334 Bitcoin during the four-day period spanning October 1 through October 4, spending roughly $28.7 million at an average cost of $85,838.80 per token.
Compared to Strategy’s typical transaction volume this year, the recent acquisition ranks among the company’s more modest purchases. The buy follows a 1,665 Bitcoin addition made two weeks prior, signaling renewed accumulation after a period that included some asset sales.
Strategy’s Bitcoin treasury has now reached 848,000 BTC. At present market valuations, this position is worth approximately $73 billion. The company’s aggregate investment in Bitcoin totals just below $64 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $75,440.70 per coin.
The financing structure for this purchase involved selling 92,894 shares of MSTR stock, generating $15.7 million in proceeds. The company supplemented this with $13 million drawn from its USD Cash holdings.
Under its at-the-market offering program, Strategy maintains $18.8 billion in MSTR shares available for future sale. The company has increasingly relied on this mechanism recently, as its STRC preferred shares trade beneath their $100 par value, reducing their appeal as a capital-raising vehicle.
STRC Buyback Continues
Last week, Strategy repurchased 1.77 million STRC preferred shares for approximately $176.3 million. The majority of this expenditure—$154.1 million—came from the company’s USD Cash reserve, while $22.2 million was funded through interest income generated from cash holdings and short-term investments.
Additionally, the firm allocated $142.5 million from its reserves toward preferred stock dividends and debt interest obligations. Following these transactions, Strategy’s USD Reserve balance stood at $4.88 billion as of October 4, with USD Cash totaling $833.4 million.
STRC shares currently trade near $99, marginally below their $100 par value. This represents a significant recovery from the 2026 low of approximately $74.
MSTR Performance This Year
MSTR has experienced a turbulent twelve months. The stock has declined 48% year-over-year, although recent weeks have shown meaningful recovery.
Year-to-date performance metrics show slight variation across different data providers and measurement periods, with estimates ranging from approximately 3% gains to nearly flat. Regardless of the precise figure, MSTR has surged roughly 30% during the past month as Bitcoin prices have strengthened.
The company recorded nearly $21 billion in unrealized gains on its Bitcoin position during the third quarter, directly reflecting cryptocurrency market recovery. These gains underscore the close correlation between MSTR’s valuation and Bitcoin price movements.
Saylor celebrated the acquisition with characteristic enthusiasm, sharing a visualization of Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation history on X, accompanied by the caption “More orange than ever.” While such posts have frequently coincided with purchase disclosures, the correlation has been less reliable in recent months.
Strategy’s current holdings represent over 4% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million coin maximum supply. Data from Bitcoin Treasuries indicates that 196 publicly traded companies now maintain Bitcoin reserves on their corporate balance sheets.
Among Strategy’s closest competitors in Bitcoin holdings are Metaplanet with 44,000 BTC, Twenty One with 43,514 BTC, MARA holding 35,577 BTC, and Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company with 30,021 BTC. Strategy maintains a commanding lead over all other corporate holders.
