AVGO Stock Closed 33.6% Below Its $495 High After Hock Tan…
AVGO stock closed at $328.75 on Friday, down 4.52% on the session and 33.6% below the $495.00 high it set in June, according to StockAnalysis. The close capped a week in which Broadcom lost 10.08% and left the shares 13.4% above their 52-week low of $289.96.
Broadcom’s chief executive spent part of that week telling an audience in Singapore that the binding constraint on artificial intelligence is no longer silicon. Hock Tan named capital instead, eleven days after Reuters reported that his company had agreed to lend one customer up to $42 billion. The gap between those two positions is the question now attached to AVGO stock.
AVGO Stock Closed at $328.75 With the Chip Index Down Eight Sessions Running
Friday was a sector session rather than a company one, and the breadth of the decline shows it. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 3.83% to 11,137.29, with all 30 constituents closing lower, and the 4.52% decline in AVGO stock put it in the middle of a pack that included Arm at 6.94%, AMD at 5.95%, Intel at 5.79% and Micron at 5.63%. The index has now fallen for eight straight sessions, and Benzinga reports that the iShares Semiconductor ETF has gone nine, its longest run since May 2006.
The wider tape moved with the chips rather than against them through the whole of last week. The Nasdaq Composite shed about 4.5% across the week, its worst stretch since June, while the VIX closed at 19.99. Much of the week’s pressure traced back to credit rather than chip orders, with CoreWeave’s borrowing costs climbing until its credit default swaps passed 1,000 basis points. TradingView’s premarket quote put AVGO stock at $337.73 on Monday morning, up 2.73%.
Six months of AVGO stock, from the early-June peak to Friday’s $328.75 close, a 17.13% decline over the period. The drawdown from the $495.00 high reaches 33.6% and has come with no cut to Broadcom’s AI revenue guidance. Source: StockAnalysisInvestor Takeaway
AVGO stock closing 33.6% below its June high while Broadcom’s AI revenue guidance stands unchanged puts the repricing in the multiple rather than in the forecast.
Hock Tan Told a Singapore Panel That Capital Has Replaced Chips as the Ceiling
The remarks that now hang over AVGO stock came at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore on 12 October, where Tan was asked what limits the build. “[What] I think might be the biggest constraint is capital,” he said, as Benzinga reported, adding that “there is more demand for compute infrastructure than we can supply.” He expected memory shortages to ease within a year and wafer and power limits to loosen as capacity arrives, leaving funding as the obstacle that does not resolve itself.
He was harder still on the investors underwriting the build than on the build itself. “A lot of investors have no clue what they are investing in,” Tan said, describing some as setting “very extreme expectations only to find out that it’s almost like they are in a casino.” He compared enterprise AI spending to a child burning through arcade tokens, and put the supply and demand imbalance running “till 2029 and probably into 2030,” according to Wolf Street’s account of the panel. Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan, on the same stage, said that “if there’s any challenge in the front, it’s capital and the cost of capital.”
Eleven Days Before That Warning, Broadcom Offered Anthropic Up to $42 Billion
Reuters reported on 1 October, from Anthropic’s IPO prospectus, that Broadcom had agreed to provide the AI lab with up to $42 billion of financing against a five-year lease of tensor processing capacity worth $125.2 billion. The facility is a ceiling rather than a drawdown, and nothing has been taken against it. Anthropic’s own filing flags the “potential conflicts of interest” created by Broadcom standing on both sides of the arrangement as supplier and lender.
Readers have asked whether the two positions contradict each other, and the answer matters for AVGO stock because the facility is Broadcom’s own exposure rather than a customer’s. Broadcom has not addressed the question publicly. One reading holds that a company warning about the cost of capital is also demonstrating why it has to supply that capital itself. Another holds that vendor financing is exactly the mechanism Tan was cautioning about. Broadcom declined to comment on the Reuters report, so neither reading has company backing.
The Anthropic facility ceiling is roughly twice the AI semiconductor revenue Broadcom has guided for a single quarter, though it is a multi-year maximum against a $125.2 billion lease and nothing has been drawn. Source: Broadcom Q3 FY2026 results, Reuters · Chart: FinanceFeedsInvestor Takeaway
Broadcom’s chief executive named capital as the industry’s binding constraint eleven days after his company committed up to $42 billion of it to a single customer, and the company has not reconciled the two in public, which leaves AVGO stock carrying a contradiction nobody at Broadcom has explained.
BofA Says Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron Already Trade at Cisco’s Post-Crash Multiple
Bank of America’s Vivek Arya told clients on Friday that the three names trade at about 13 times forward earnings on average, a level that falls inside the 10 to 20 times range Cisco occupied after the dot-com bubble broke. “Investors are paying post-crash multiples for a cycle that hasn’t crashed,” he wrote, per Benzinga.
The comparison cuts in both directions and Arya used it as a bull argument, on the basis that chip earnings will keep growing where Cisco’s did not. StockAnalysis puts the forward multiple on AVGO stock at 18.96 against a trailing 41.96, a spread that shows how much of the valuation depends on the guided ramp arriving. Broadcom was also among nine companies that objected to having their shares tokenized on the OKXICE venue last week, a separate matter that gave AVGO stock a second news line of its own.
Fourth Quarter Results Land in Early December With $21.7 Billion of AI Revenue Guided
Broadcom has not yet published the date for its fourth quarter and fiscal 2026 results, and TradingView’s calendar estimates 10 December. Whenever the call lands, the numbers AVGO stock will be judged against are already set out. The company reported third quarter revenue of $29.6 billion on 2 September, up 86%, with AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, a 221% increase, and Tan guided the fourth quarter to $21.7 billion of AI revenue on about $34.8 billion of total sales.
The longer arc is the one AVGO stock is being marked against, and the company has set it out in full. Broadcom has outlined roughly $58 billion of AI revenue in fiscal 2026, $115 billion in fiscal 2027 and $230 billion in fiscal 2028, and the December print is the first checkpoint on that path since the financing question moved to the center of the AI trade. FinanceFeeds has previously mapped the range around those numbers at $560 on the bull case and $265 on the bear.
