Bitcoin Holder Loses $5.2 Million After Using Reseller-Bought Ledger Wallet

A Bitcoin holder has lost 80 BTC, valued at approximately $5.2 million, after transferring funds to a Ledger hardware wallet purchased from a Southeast Asian reseller, CryptoBilis. The transfer occurred just one week before the funds disappeared, raising concerns about the security of devices bought from this reseller.

Ledger announced on October 9, 2026, that it is investigating a series of losses linked to CryptoBilis, with estimates suggesting total damages could range from $72 million to over $87 million across multiple victims. The company has advised anyone who purchased a Ledger device from the reseller in the last 90 days not to initialize their device and to transfer their assets to new Ledger wallets with different seed phrases.

Reports indicate that other buyers have also experienced significant losses, including one individual who lost 7 million USDT, a stablecoin, after acquiring a Ledger device just three weeks prior. Analysts have traced assets linked to the thefts, identifying $17.7 million in Bitcoin and $29 million in Ethereum equivalents in wallets associated with the incidents. The investigation is ongoing, with speculation surrounding potential supply-chain tampering or phishing attacks as possible causes of the losses.
