BlackRock Files for iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF

On October 19, 2026, BlackRock, the world's largest issuer of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), submitted a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF. This new fund aims to provide investors with exposure to Bitcoin while incorporating a layer of downside protection, designed to mitigate losses during market downturns.

The proposed ETF will track gains linked to BlackRock's existing iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), which launched in January 2024 and has since become a market leader with assets in the tens of billions. The new product is intended to offer investors a choice between direct Bitcoin exposure, income generation through options strategies, and now, a safety net against market volatility.

BlackRock's digital asset ETFs reached approximately $80 billion in assets by the third quarter of 2026. The company previously introduced the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF in June 2026, which generates yield by selling call options on IBIT. As the ETF market evolves, investors will soon have multiple options for gaining Bitcoin exposure through BlackRock's offerings, pending SEC approval and further details on fees and operational mechanics.
