CoinGecko Highlights Role of On-Chain Pre-IPO Contracts in Valuation of Traditional IPOs

CoinGecko has released a report indicating that the pre-market for synthetic initial public offerings (IPOs) is emerging as a significant valuation tool for traditional IPOs. The report emphasizes that on-chain perpetual contracts can facilitate continuous price discovery and serve as market sentiment indicators for popular unlisted companies prior to their official exchange listings.

The analysis features examples from SpaceX and Changxin Storage (CXMT). Prior to SpaceX's listing, perpetual contract prices varied between $158 and $170, eventually stabilizing around $157.40. When SpaceX debuted on Nasdaq at $150.05, the price deviation was approximately 4.9%. Similarly, the price difference for CXMT's perpetual contracts before its listing was about 4.6% compared to its actual opening price.

CoinGecko suggests that even without immediate arbitrage opportunities from real spot stocks, traders will likely create concentrated quotes based on valuation, listing popularity, and anticipated liquidity. This trend indicates that on-chain pre-IPO perpetual contracts are becoming a crucial reference point for investors, allowing them to express their long and short expectations around the clock.
