Draper Associates Invests in Xverse to Enhance Bitcoin Banking Services

Draper Associates has made a significant investment in Xverse, a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet that is evolving into a Bitcoin neobank. This investment aims to expand Xverse's onchain financial services, which currently serve nearly 2 million users. The platform, developed by Secret Key Labs based in Hong Kong, allows users to maintain control of their private keys while accessing various banking features.

Xverse offers three main services: yield generation through staking protocols, borrowing against Bitcoin using stablecoins such as USDC as collateral, and facilitating stablecoin payments across Bitcoin's base layer and several Layer 2 networks, including Stacks, Starknet, and Spark. This model allows users to earn returns and access loans without relinquishing control of their assets to custodians, a common dilemma for Bitcoin holders.

The investment by Draper Associates, known for its long-standing support of Bitcoin since 2011, follows a previous funding round in August 2023 where Xverse raised $5 million. With total funding estimated between $9 million and $12 million as of mid-2026, the company is positioned to enhance its banking features further. However, the reliance on developing Layer 2 infrastructure and the risks associated with self-custody and smart contracts present challenges that Xverse must navigate as it seeks to grow its user base and services.
