Elon Musk's Terafab Project Engages South Korean Companies for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Tesla and SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, are actively engaging with approximately ten South Korean companies as part of their semiconductor manufacturing initiative, Terafab. Reports from South Korean media outlet THE ELEC indicate that these companies are involved in discussions regarding materials, components, and equipment necessary for the project. Some firms have already signed non-disclosure agreements and are exploring various supply categories.

From October 13 to 15, representatives from Musk's companies visited booths of South Korean firms at the Semicon West 2026 event in San Francisco. This visit aimed to assess product offerings and production capabilities, with many discussions having been in progress for several months. Companies such as ENF Technology, Asflow, and G&G Intech are among those involved, focusing on areas like process materials and wastewater reuse equipment.

Terafab, which is based in Texas, was announced in March 2026 as a collaborative effort between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. The project aims to achieve a monthly production capacity of one million semiconductor wafers within a decade, backed by an initial investment of $16.8 billion and the creation of over 3,000 jobs. SpaceX has recently signed a tax reduction agreement with Texas and has commenced construction on the facility, which is expected to produce 100,000 wafers per month by 2030, primarily for Tesla's autonomous driving technology and SpaceX's satellite operations.
