FomoPeek App Exposes Users to Private Key Theft Through iOS Exploit

Versions 1.1 and 1.2 of the FomoPeek app, designed to help cryptocurrency users track whale wallets, have been found to contain malicious code that can compromise private keys and other sensitive information on iOS devices. Security teams from blockchain firm SlowMist and cryptocurrency exchange OKX confirmed the presence of this exploit on September 19, 2026, following multiple reports of asset theft linked to the app.

The malware embedded in FomoPeek utilizes a sophisticated iOS kernel exploit framework that employs eight different attack methods, adapting to the specific model and iOS version of the target device. This exploit targets iOS versions 12.0 through 18.7 and 26.0 through 26.1, allowing it to bypass security mechanisms and access the iOS Keychain, where sensitive credentials are stored. Investigators noted that the malicious code was actively running during their investigation, connecting to remote servers and executing unauthorized commands in real time.

Despite being marketed as a read-only tool that does not execute trades or hold funds, FomoPeek poses significant risks. The app's ability to access the iOS Keychain means that any private keys or seed phrases stored on a compromised device can be stolen, undermining the assumption that non-transactional apps are inherently safer. Users are advised to immediately transfer their assets to new wallets generated on clean devices, uninstall the app, and review their transaction histories for any unauthorized activity. As of the alert date, specific financial losses and details of compromised wallets had not been disclosed.
