Ledger Partners with Payward to Enhance Security for Tokenized Stocks
Ledger, a French hardware wallet manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Payward, the parent company of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, to provide cold storage solutions for tokenized equities on Kraken's xStocks platform. This collaboration allows users of Ledger devices to sign transactions for tokenized stocks while keeping their private keys offline, enhancing security during trading activities.
The integration utilizes Ledger’s Device Management Kit, which facilitates funding and withdrawals for xStocks. It features Clear Signing technology, enabling users to verify transaction details on their Ledger devices before approval. The xStocks platform offers tokenized versions of both US and international equities, each backed 1:1 by tracker certificates issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, although redeemability for the underlying assets is limited.
As of September 1, 2026, Kraken has expanded its xStocks offerings to include tokenized versions of the top 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, increasing its global reach. The platform has achieved a cumulative transaction volume exceeding $42 billion, indicating significant user engagement. Ledger plans to further develop its integration with Payward, particularly targeting institutional clients, to enhance the security infrastructure for trading tokenized stocks.
