Pendle Launches NGI+ Market for Tokenized Infrastructure Assets
Pendle has introduced a new market aimed at decentralized finance (DeFi) users, allowing them to trade fixed and variable yields on tokenized private infrastructure assets. The NGI+ market, which went live on September 17-18, offers an initial fixed yield of approximately 19% for principal token holders, bringing institutional-grade investment opportunities into the DeFi space.
The NGI+ token, backed by AssetoFinance, is linked to a Partners Group infrastructure strategy known as Next Generation Infrastructure. This strategy manages over $1 billion in assets and has delivered a cumulative net return of 48.8% since its inception in February 2024, with low volatility and no reported drawdowns. Users can split the NGI+ token into a principal token (PT) for fixed returns or a yield token (YT) for variable yield exposure, similar to traditional bond investments.
Pendle co-founder TN Lee emphasized that this integration represents a significant advancement in merging institutional private infrastructure with blockchain technology. The tokenized real-world asset market has now exceeded $300 billion, with private infrastructure seen as the next frontier due to its ability to generate steady cash flows. This new product offers retail investors a unique opportunity to secure high fixed yields on institutional-backed assets, a feature that was not available in DeFi just a year ago.
