Analysts Reported Large-Scale Profit-Taking in Bitcoin Amid Price Drop

      • On October 7, bitcoin holders realized about $1.03 billion in profit.
      • Santiment said this was the second-largest daily figure in 2026.
      • According to CryptoQuant, bitcoin’s current 7.61% drawdown matches the average from the previous bull cycle.
      • The historical average drawdown is 14.39%, which corresponds to a price of about $74,500 from the recent high.

Analytics platforms Santiment and CryptoQuant drew attention to bitcoin holders’ behavior during the current correction. The former recorded a sharp rise in realized profit, while the latter compared the price decline with drawdowns seen in previous bull cycles.

Bitcoin Holders Locked In Over $1 Billion in Profit

According to Santiment, on October 7, 2026, investors realized about $1.03 billion in profit from bitcoin transactions. This was the second-largest daily figure of the year, only slightly below the annual high of $1.04 billion.

The spike was recorded after the price of the leading cryptocurrency recently rose above $87,000. For its assessment, Santiment uses the Network Realized Profit/Loss metric, which measures realized profit or loss when coins move on the blockchain.

As the platform explains, large positive readings indicate that a significant number of holders are taking profits at the same time. Such activity can increase selling pressure and coincide with short- to mid-term market cooling.

At the same time, Santiment emphasizes that a realized-profit spike on its own does not guarantee a trend reversal. However, it suggests that bitcoin’s recent rally is being put to the test.

CryptoQuant Compared the Correction With Previous Cycles

CryptoQuant analysts looked at bitcoin’s current decline in the context of historical drawdowns during bull cycles. To do so, they used the Bitcoin Bull Cycle Drawdowns indicator, which measures the price drop from peaks formed within each cycle.

Average drawdowns in previous periods were:

      • 2010-2011 — 18.41%.
      • 2011-2013 — 21.71%.
      • 2015–2017 — 10.93%.
      • 2018–2021 — 19.39%.
      • 2022–2025 — 7.58%.

The overall average across five cycles is 14.39%. According to CryptoQuant, corrections in the latest cycle were relatively moderate compared with previous periods.

According to the platform, from October 5 to October 9, bitcoin fell by about 7.61% — from a high of $87,027 to a low of $80,404. This is close to the average drawdown of the previous cycle, but it remains below the overall historical figure of 14.39%.

If the historical average drawdown of 14.39% is applied to the recent high of $87,027, the estimated bitcoin price would be around $74,500, the experts added.

CryptoQuant notes that investors may consider gradually accumulating bitcoin near $80,000 and increasing purchase volumes in the $74,000–$75,000 range if the price continues to fall. These levels are reference points provided by analysts, not a guarantee of further price movement.

Previously, CryptoQuant cited weak spot demand as the reason behind bitcoin’s correction.
