BlackRock Partners with Ondo Finance to Launch New Ethereum Investment Tokens
BlackRock has entered the cryptocurrency market by collaborating with Ondo Finance to launch three new onchain portfolio tokens on September 24, 2026. These tokens, named BLKHIon, BLKDIGon, and BLKGRWon, are designed based on BlackRock's portfolio allocation strategies and provide eligible non-US investors with access to institutional-grade investment options that trade continuously.
Following the announcement, the ONDO token experienced a significant surge, rising between 18% and 30%. Additionally, Ethereum's active address count increased by approximately 30%, indicating heightened interest in the network. The new tokens are built on Ethereum and BNB Chain, with plans for future support on Solana, and include underlying assets such as tokenized equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Unlike traditional exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which operate during market hours and involve complex brokerage systems, these onchain tokens offer 24/7 trading and near-instant settlement. This structure allows for greater flexibility, enabling the tokens to be transferred between wallets and used as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocols. Ondo Finance manages the issuance and oversight of the tokens, while smart contracts ensure automatic rebalancing and transparency regarding the assets held within each token.
BlackRock's involvement is significant, as the firm manages over $10 trillion in assets globally. By launching these products for non-US investors first, Ondo Finance aims to navigate regulatory challenges that have affected similar projects. This partnership marks a notable step in the evolution of tokenized finance, leveraging BlackRock's expertise in portfolio construction within the crypto space.
