Cross-Border Stablecoin Flows Increase by 78% to $220 Billion Amid Crypto Market Decline

Cross-border stablecoin transactions surged to $220.3 billion for the year ending June 30, 2026, marking a 77.5% increase from $124.2 billion the previous year, according to data from Chainalysis. This growth occurred despite a significant decline in the overall cryptocurrency market, which saw its total market capitalization fall by 37% to $2.1 trillion during the same period.

Monthly volumes of cross-border stablecoin transfers more than doubled, rising from $11 billion in January 2025 to $24 billion by June 2026. The average transaction size was approximately $3,000, indicating that these transfers are primarily driven by business and trade activities rather than speculative trading, as noted by Tether's Vice President of Economics.

The data also revealed that the top 25% of cross-border corridors accounted for 96.1% of the total transaction value, highlighting a concentration of activity in a few key routes. Chainalysis identified 4,708 new corridors that collectively handled $2.64 billion, averaging just over $560,000 per corridor for the year. Brazil emerged as a leader in crypto adoption, driven by practical needs such as capital controls and currency volatility, reflecting a broader trend in emerging markets.
