Hyperliquid Co-Founder Highlights Benefits of On-Chain Finance at Korea Blockchain Week 2026
Jeff Yan, co-founder of the decentralized perpetual contract trading platform Hyperliquid, emphasized the advantages of on-chain finance during a discussion at Korea Blockchain Week 2026. He noted that the ability to trade cryptocurrencies around the clock is not the primary distinction between on-chain trading venues and traditional exchanges. Instead, Yan highlighted that the true value lies in users' ability to maintain control and custody of their funds, which mitigates the risk associated with a single point of failure.
Yan explained that self-custody becomes particularly important when intermediaries or custodians face difficulties, as it allows users to safeguard their assets independently. He also pointed out that transparency is a critical feature of on-chain trading, fostering trust in the system. Unlike traditional exchanges, which may lack the same level of transparency due to their private ownership, on-chain platforms offer a more neutral environment for users.
Additionally, Yan addressed the need for continuous trading of assets that do not have publicly available prices during traditional market hours. He provided examples of commodities, stocks, and Pre-IPO targets that have been traded on Hyperliquid before the opening of reference markets, demonstrating a genuine demand for such trading capabilities.
