Ledger Issues Warning After $93 Million Drain Linked to Tampered Wallets from CryptoBilis

Ledger has issued a warning to customers who purchased hardware wallets from CryptoBilis, a reseller operating in Southeast Asia, advising them to stop using potentially compromised devices. The warning follows an investigation revealing that unauthorized implants in these wallets have led to estimated losses between $86 million and $93 million across numerous accounts.

On October 9, 2026, Ledger ordered CryptoBilis to halt all sales and shipments after reports emerged of wallets being drained. The following day, Ledger confirmed that at least one affected device contained an unauthorized LTE-enabled microcontroller capable of capturing users' recovery phrases during setup, without compromising the device's secure element. The compromised wallets were found to span multiple cryptocurrency networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and TRON.

CryptoBilis has since suspended all sales while the investigation is ongoing. Ledger is reviewing its reseller protocols and anti-tampering measures in light of the incident, which follows a change in ownership of the company earlier in March 2026. The company has assured customers that its direct sales channels remain secure and is collaborating with authorities and a security group for incident response.

Customers who purchased wallets from CryptoBilis within the last 90 days are advised to leave uninitialized devices in their boxes and to set up new wallets with fresh recovery phrases. The investigation continues as Ledger seeks to determine the extent of the tampering and the individuals responsible for the breach.
