Fragment Secures $12 Million in Series A Funding for AI Financial Software
Fragment, an AI financial software company, has successfully completed a $12 million Series A funding round, which is expected to close in mid-2025. The funding round is led by FirstMark and BoxGroup, although the post-round valuation has not been disclosed by CEO Thomas Neckel. Fragment was co-founded by Neckel and Varun Mohan, a former engineer at Robinhood.
The software developed by Fragment allows developers to integrate its capabilities into their own applications, utilizing double-entry bookkeeping to verify the sources and uses of funds. This functionality ensures that account balances are confirmed before any funds are transferred. Neckel emphasized that the product serves as a financial building block aimed at automating business activities for agents.
Previously, Fragment raised $11 million in a seed round led by Stripe, with participation from BoxGroup and notable figures such as Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, and Zach Perret, CEO of Plaid. Currently, the company has approximately 50 to 60 paying customers, including Ramp, BILL, and Whop, who utilize the software for sharing transaction records and minimizing manual reconciliation. Adam Nelson, managing partner at FirstMark, expressed the ambition to establish Fragment as the standard toolkit for financial capabilities among agents.
