Lighter Code Repository Introduces Support for Binary Options and Prediction Markets
A recent update to the Lighter code repository has introduced support for binary options, as highlighted in a post by user @UngusTrade on September 21. This update includes a commit titled 'Binary options support,' which outlines the implementation of zero-knowledge (ZK) circuits designed for standard binary outcome contracts. These contracts feature a settlement cap typically set at 100 for prediction markets, where share prices fluctuate between 0 and the cap, ultimately settling at either of these two values.
The newly implemented contracts are fully collateralized in USD Coin (USDC), operating without leverage or liquidation risks. A notable aspect of this update is the support for continuous markets, which allows for settlements at any value within a specified range. This flexibility enables the creation of contracts based on various measurements, expanding the scope beyond simple yes or no events.
Additionally, the update suggests that Lighter may permit whitelisted operators to create, manage, and settle markets, mirroring the deployment model of HIP-3. As of now, Lighter has not provided any official comments regarding this development.
