Millennium Management Establishes First Office in Athens, Greece

Millennium Management, a prominent multi-strategy hedge fund managing approximately $92 billion in assets, has announced the opening of its first office in Athens, Greece. The firm incorporated Millennium Capital Management (Greece) in July 2026 with an initial share capital of €100,000, marking its commitment to the city as it seeks to capitalize on Athens' emerging status as a financial hub in Europe.

This move follows the announcement that Chris Rokos, founder of Rokos Capital Management, plans to relocate to Greece and establish an office there in September 2026. The simultaneous interest from major hedge fund figures suggests a growing trend of financial migration from London, driven largely by Greece's favorable tax environment, which offers a flat €100,000 annual tax on foreign income for qualifying residents for up to 15 years.

Millennium Management is not entirely new to the Greek market, having engaged in trading activities involving Greek equities for the past five years. The establishment of a formal office is expected to enhance market liquidity and increase trading volumes on the local exchange, benefiting Greek-listed companies. However, the sustainability of this influx of hedge funds may depend on the stability of Greece's current tax policies, which could change with future governments.
