NEAR Protocol Surpasses Avalanche in Daily Decentralized Exchange Volume
NEAR Protocol has outperformed Avalanche in daily decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume, logging $197.55 million in transactions on October 1, 2026, according to data from DefiLlama. Avalanche recorded a slightly lower volume of $193.92 million during the same period, marking a significant moment for NEAR in the competitive decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape.
The surge in NEAR's trading activity is largely attributed to its innovative trading architecture known as NEAR Intents. This system allows users to specify desired outcomes for trades without needing to manually navigate the complexities of routing or liquidity pools. Since its inception, NEAR Intents has processed over $31 billion in cumulative DEX volume, with daily volumes peaking at over $300 million in mid-to-late September 2026, although the recent figure falls short of that high.
In addition to the trading volume, NEAR's total value locked (TVL) has fluctuated between $194 million and $230 million, driven by growing interest in liquidity projects like Rhea Finance and advancements in privacy features linked to Zcash. The NEAR token has also seen a notable increase, with approximately 78% gains reported in the weeks leading up to this milestone. While Avalanche remains a strong player in the DeFi space, NEAR's recent performance highlights its rapid growth and the effectiveness of its intent-based trading model.
