New York Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Polymarket for Unlicensed Gambling

New York Attorney General Letitia James has initiated legal action against Polymarket US, a designated exchange by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), for allegedly operating unlicensed gambling activities within the state. The lawsuit was filed in a Manhattan court, where James is seeking to prohibit the exchange from conducting business in New York.

The Attorney General's office is also pursuing financial penalties, demanding that Polymarket pay three times its profits derived from the alleged illegal activities. Additionally, the lawsuit calls for a fine of $100,000 for each sports contract that Polymarket has offered, further escalating the potential financial repercussions for the company.

This legal move underscores ongoing regulatory scrutiny of online gambling platforms in the United States, particularly as states tighten their regulations to ensure compliance with local laws. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for the future operations of Polymarket and similar exchanges in the region.
