Oracle Invokes "Force Majeure" Clause to Avoid Costs of Controversial Data Center Project

PANews reported on September 24, citing Bloomberg, that Oracle (ORCL.N) is seeking to avoid the hefty costs arising from a large data center project being built in New Mexico, adding a new twist to a project already beset by opposition and regulatory hurdles.

According to people familiar with the matter, Oracle has sent a notice to the project's developer, a subsidiary of Blue Owl Capital, invoking a force majeure clause. The people said Oracle is not trying to exit the project as its anchor tenant, but rather hopes to defer related payments if the "Project Jupiter" data center project is delayed and fails to come online as planned in 2028.
