Robinhood Chain Gas Fees Surge 82-Fold in Just 11 Days
Robinhood Chain has experienced a dramatic increase in gas fees, rising 82 times from $54,254 on August 22 to $4.45 million on September 2. This surge in fees is attributed to heightened activity surrounding memecoin launches, which has pushed the network's base fee significantly above its minimum price. Over the same period, transaction volume on the chain increased by approximately 36%, with the average execution gas cost per transaction climbing from under a cent to around 32 cents.
The chain's gas fees have surpassed those of all other blockchains, with Canton and Tron following at $1.69 million and $873,930, respectively. Robinhood Chain has generated $12.44 million in gas fees over the past week, accounting for two-thirds of its total earnings since its mainnet launch on July 1. The network enforces a minimum gas price of 0.02 gwei, but the median base fee has recently reached 0.467 gwei, indicating a significant rise in transaction costs.
Robinhood is currently covering network fees for users swapping assets within its wallet app until September 29, 2026, allowing customers to avoid these increased costs. However, users engaging with decentralized exchanges directly will be subject to the current gas rates. The launchpad Pons V2 has also contributed significantly to the fee collection, generating $6.09 million in the last 24 hours alone. Overall, gas fees now represent a quarter of all payments made on the Robinhood Chain, a substantial increase from just 2.5% on August 22.
