Starknet's STRK Token Experiences Significant Decline Amid DeFi Weakness and Profit-Taking

Starknet's STRK token has seen a notable decline of between 38% and 48% within a week, following an impressive surge of approximately 385% in less than four weeks. As of October 19, 2026, the token was trading between $0.057 and $0.060, significantly lower than its peak of around $0.1268 reached in mid-October.

The recent rally was driven by speculation regarding Starknet's potential transition from an Ethereum Layer 2 solution to an independent Layer 1 blockchain, emphasizing post-quantum security. StarkWare, the company behind Starknet, contributed to the excitement with announcements about future upgrades and new privacy features, such as Shadow Accounts. However, the subsequent decline has been attributed to profit-taking and a broader downturn in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector.

Despite the drop in token value, Starknet's total value locked (TVL) in DeFi has only decreased modestly, falling about 5.3% to approximately $158 million. Additionally, the network achieved a record weekly revenue of around $92,800 around October 17, indicating a resilient user base that remains engaged with the platform.

A community vote initiated on October 15, 2026, is currently open, asking STRK holders whether to explore the possibility of transitioning to an independent Layer 1 blockchain. The vote, which will close on October 22, has shown early results with approximately 99.9% in favor, although it is non-binding and serves primarily to gauge community interest. The outcome of this vote could significantly influence Starknet's future direction and its relationship with Ethereum.
