Trust Wallet Reduces App Size by 200 MB Through Code Cleanup
Trust Wallet, a self-custody wallet acquired by Binance in 2018, has announced a significant reduction in its app size by removing nine years of accumulated code, resulting in a 200 MB decrease. This optimization effort, described as a cleanup of legacy code, outdated technology stacks, and unnecessary dependencies, aims to enhance the app's performance and efficiency while maintaining its functionality for users.
The company plans to continue this process, indicating that further code reductions are forthcoming. CEO Felix Fan likened the challenge of reworking a live product used by millions to 'making jet engine changes in-flight.' Before this optimization, the Android version of the app was approximately 160 MB, while the iOS version was around 250 MB.
In addition to the recent code purge, Trust Wallet had previously dropped native support for 25 lower-activity blockchain networks in September 2026. This decision was made to allow the company to focus its engineering resources more effectively, although users on those networks can still access their assets through recovery phrases. The ongoing efforts to streamline the app are expected to improve user experience by reducing storage requirements and potentially enhancing security by minimizing the attack surface.
