Hyperliquid Achieves Record Open Interest of Over $8 Billion
On September 20, 2026, Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetuals exchange, announced that its total open interest surpassed $8.1 billion, marking a new all-time high. This milestone positions Hyperliquid as a significant player in on-chain derivatives trading, controlling nearly 11% of the global perpetual futures open interest, according to data from DefiLlama.
The platform's growth has been fueled by the introduction of tokenized traditional assets under its HIP-3 protocol, launched in October 2025. These tokenized assets, which include equities and commodities, now account for over 30% of the total open interest on Hyperliquid. The exchange operates on a Layer-1 blockchain designed for rapid trade execution, allowing it to compete effectively with centralized exchanges.
In the 24 hours leading up to this achievement, Hyperliquid recorded a trading volume exceeding $1.05 billion. The platform's native token, HYPE, was trading between $90.88 and $91.32, with recent peaks reaching $93 to $94. Additionally, approximately 26,310 HYPE tokens were burned in a single day, valued at around $2.4 million, contributing to a total of over 48 million tokens burned since the platform's inception. This aggressive token burn strategy is funded through trading fees, enhancing the token's scarcity and value.
