In Poland, Ukrainian Citizens Were Detained for Laundering Funds From a Crypto Scam Worth 337 Million Zlotys

      • In Poland, eight Ukrainian citizens and a Belarusian citizen were detained on suspicion of laundering funds from an investment crypto scam.
      • According to law enforcement, the group carried out transactions totaling more than 337 million zlotys, using currency exchange offices and fictitious gold purchases.

In Poland, law enforcement detained nine alleged members of an international criminal group that laundered money obtained from investment scams linked to cryptocurrencies and investment platforms.

Those detained include eight Ukrainian citizens and a Belarusian citizen. According to investigators, the group operated in several Polish cities, and it was led by a 34-year-old Ukrainian who coordinated cash collection and the subsequent movement of funds in Poland and abroad.

To conceal the origin of the money, the group’s members used currency exchange offices and fictitious gold-purchase transactions. The total value of transactions linked to the group’s activity exceeded 337 million zlotys (about $87 million).

The arrests took place in Łódź, Warsaw, and the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Law enforcement carried out searches of residential and office premises, as well as currency exchange offices. They seized gold and cash worth more than 1 million zlotys, as well as phones, computers, and other data storage devices for further analysis.

Suspects Face up to 15 Years in Prison

The court granted the prosecutor’s motion to remand six of the detainees in custody for three months, and one more for two months. For the other two suspects, property bail, a travel ban from Poland, and police supervision were imposed.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź and coordinated by the Cybercrime and Digitalization Department of Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office. If found guilty, the detainees face up to 15 years in prison.

As a reminder, in March 2026, the President of Poland signed a law on transferring data on crypto transactions to tax authorities.
