Lulo Reports 6.4% Drawdown on Boost Deposits Due to Neutrl Exposure

Lulo, a yield platform that offers USDC deposit products, has reported a 6.4% drawdown on its Boost deposits linked to its exposure to Neutrl Finance. This situation arose as Boost depositors absorbed losses tied to Neutrl's synthetic dollar token, NUSD, while those in the Protected tier remained unaffected. Lulo's Boost product offers higher yields, ranging from 6.5% to 7.88% APY, but carries the risk of first-loss capital, meaning it is the first to absorb losses when issues arise in integrated protocols.

Neutrl Finance, built on the Ethereum blockchain, utilized delta-neutral trading strategies to maintain the value of its NUSD token. However, the protocol faced significant liquidity challenges, leading to the suspension of minting and redemption functions. Currently, Neutrl is offering a redemption rate of 0.51 USDC per NUSD, indicating the extent of its liquidity issues. Lulo had previously allocated funds across various protocols, including Neutrl, which ultimately resulted in the losses being reflected in the Boost tier.

Despite the setback for Boost depositors, Lulo's Protected deposits, which historically exceed $100 million, remained intact. This incident serves as a demonstration of Lulo's risk allocation model, where higher-yielding deposits are designed to absorb losses before impacting more conservative capital. The situation highlights the interconnected risks within decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, as issues in one protocol can affect multiple users across different chains. Stakeholders will be closely monitoring how many NUSD holders accept the current redemption offer and whether Lulo will adjust its allocation strategies in response to this event.
