Mastercard, BVNK Launch Platform to Hold, Convert and Spend Fiat, Stablecoins

Mastercard and BVNK have launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform, a single API that lets banks, fintechs and businesses hold fiat currencies and stablecoins side by side, convert between them, and spend or pay out from either, the companies announced on Thursday. It is the first major integration of the two businesses since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August.
The platform is modular, so customers can start with one function and add others. It covers multi-currency accounts holding fiat and stablecoins, real-time conversion, stablecoin-linked cards, and local bank payouts through Mastercard Move, the network's cross-border money movement service. Customers can also run their own treasury, payments and settlement through it. Mastercard said card issuing is available in more than 130 countries and that stablecoin balances can be spent across its merchant acceptance network, while Move coverage is expected to expand to more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories in 2027. The platform is available now through BVNK.
Payments processor Nuvei and card issuing platform Marqeta are among the first customers to integrate, along with Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech. The release did not name the stablecoins or blockchains supported at launch.
Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard's executive vice president for blockchain and digital assets, said the platform gives businesses "a single foundation to move value across traditional and digital ecosystems." BVNK co-founder and chief business officer Chris Harmse said the aim is to build "the single infrastructure layer not just for stablecoins, but for every form of money."
The launch shows how quickly the large card networks are moving to own stablecoin infrastructure outright. Stripe set the template when it bought stablecoin platform Bridge in 2025 and built stablecoin accounts and cards into its own products. Mastercard's approach is similar in that it lets a business treat stablecoins as one more currency in an account, with the conversion and settlement hidden behind the API.
For fintechs serving cross-border businesses and freelancers, which make up much of BVNK's existing client base, the appeal is a single integration that handles collections in stablecoins and payouts to local bank accounts. Mastercard said it plans to add support for agentic commerce and for other regulated forms of digital money, such as tokenized bank deposits.
