Wall Street Faces a New Normal: Average U.S. Treasury Yield Enters the "5% Era"

PANews, September 25 – According to Headliner, this week's U.S. Treasury sell-off intensified further, with yields across multiple maturities sitting just 10 to 15 basis points away from the historical peaks reached in 2000 and 2002, though Friday saw some easing of this trend. Bloomberg data shows that the average yield of the $32 trillion U.S. Treasury market has risen to 5.05%, approaching the 2023 high and the double peak of 2006–2007. The average yield on global sovereign bonds is also hovering near 4%, the highest level since 2007.

For investors seeking fixed cash returns, however, the 5% yield level offers a highly attractive allocation opportunity. Michael Hans, chief investment officer of Citizens Wealth, which manages more than $65 billion in assets, said: "Compared with the zero-interest-rate environment we experienced after the financial crisis, I would choose the current yield environment without hesitation at any time."
