World Launches Banking Version of World ID Suite to Combat Deepfake Fraud

World, an identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has introduced a new suite of identity verification products specifically designed for banks and financial institutions. This launch, announced by co-founder Alex Blania at the Money20/20 conference, represents the first industry-specific version of the World ID protocol. The suite integrates three existing products aimed at helping institutions protect against deepfake fraud and AI-driven identity theft, addressing various scenarios including customer accounts and employee workflows.

The World ID app functions as an identity wallet, allowing users to store and present what the company refers to as user Proofs. Additionally, the World ID for Zoom feature enables participants in video calls to verify that they are interacting with real individuals rather than deepfake representations. This feature has officially launched following a limited testing phase that began in April. Furthermore, World ID for Agents, or AgentKit, allows users to delegate their Proofs to AI agents for presentation to third-party platforms.

World is collaborating with several design partners, including OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds, and Outtake, to explore how its technology can enhance security in the banking and financial services sectors. Although specific bank names and pricing details were not disclosed, a press release highlighted a Deloitte forecast predicting that AI-related fraud losses in the United States could escalate to $40 billion by 2027, up from approximately $12.3 billion in 2023. Currently, World claims that over 18 million individuals hold Proof of Human, indicating a significant user base for its identity verification solutions.
