Blockchain.com Seeks CFTC Approval for Prediction Markets and Derivatives Trading

Blockchain.com, a cryptocurrency asset platform, has applied to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for licenses to operate as a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM). The company aims to offer event contracts, also known as prediction markets, and cryptocurrency derivatives trading services to users in the United States.

Peter Smith, CEO and co-founder of Blockchain.com, indicated that the platform intends to enable users to manage their digital assets, trade derivatives, and engage in real-world event predictions all in one place. Currently, Blockchain.com provides prediction market services to select international users through its partnership with Polymarket and facilitates perpetual contract trading via Hyperliquid.

The interest in prediction markets is growing, prompting several cryptocurrency firms, including Crypto.com, Gemini, and Coinbase, to explore entry into this sector. Should Blockchain.com receive the necessary approvals, it will join other companies that have sought CFTC Designated Contract Market licenses this year.
