Germany's September Inflation Rate Holds Steady at 3.3%

Germany's final Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2026 has been confirmed at 3.3%, matching preliminary estimates and marking an increase from 2.9% in August. This figure indicates that inflation in Germany has risen above the 3% threshold as the country concludes the third quarter of the year.

The rise in inflation is primarily driven by energy prices, which increased by 3.8% in September and are 14.9% higher compared to the same month last year. This marks the third consecutive month of year-on-year increases in energy costs, with previous months showing increases of 10.5% in August and 8.3% in July. The current energy price surge is the highest since February 2023.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like energy, remains steady at 2.4%, providing some reassurance that the rise in energy prices is not yet broadly affecting other sectors. However, services inflation is still a concern, recorded at 2.7% in September, down from above 3% earlier in the year. This persistent inflation in services continues to support core inflation above the 2% mark, indicating ongoing pressures in the economy.
