Gold Prices Under Pressure Amid Rising Oil Prices and Anticipation of US CPI Report

Gold prices faced renewed pressure following a surge in oil prices, which reached new weekly highs. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, particularly the attacks by Houthi forces on Saudi Arabia and stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran, continues to limit gold's upward potential. Market analysts suggest that unless the Federal Reserve adopts a more dovish stance than currently anticipated, real yields are unlikely to fall significantly, which would further constrain gold prices.

Looking ahead, the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report is expected to be a key factor influencing market dynamics. A higher-than-expected core CPI reading could increase the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October, potentially exerting downward pressure on gold. Conversely, a softer CPI report may alleviate concerns regarding rate hikes and provide a boost to the precious metal.

Technical analysis indicates that gold is nearing a downward trendline, with sellers likely to target a drop to the 3,885 level. Buyers, however, will be looking for a breakout above this trendline to initiate a rally towards the 4,700 level, with 4,500 as an initial target. The market remains cautious as traders await further economic indicators, including the US Producer Price Index (PPI), retail sales data, and jobless claims figures, all set to be released in the coming days.
