Anthropic Initiates Presidential Candidate Outreach Program Ahead of 2028 Election

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is launching a presidential candidate outreach program aimed at engaging with bipartisan candidates on AI-related issues in preparation for the 2028 U.S. presidential election. The initiative includes forming an internal team to assist in developing political strategies and managing political funding projects. The company is currently seeking to hire a political program manager who will oversee the establishment and operation of these programs, which will involve identifying potential candidates from both major political parties and providing them with education on AI policy.

The political program manager position requires over 12 years of experience in political campaigns, party committees, or related organizations, along with a proven track record of bipartisan collaboration. The salary for this role is set between $295,000 and $345,000. This outreach effort is being organized in the context of the upcoming November midterm elections and Anthropic's anticipated initial public offering, which could be valued at up to $2 trillion.

Experts have noted that while it is common for businesses to engage with presidential campaign teams, the formal structure of this outreach program is relatively unique. California Democratic Senator Alex Padilla highlighted that this move signifies that leading technology companies are expanding their political operations beyond their core products. He emphasized the importance of transparency in these efforts. Additionally, Katie Harbath, founder and CEO of Anchor Change, pointed out that the role's responsibility for political action committee funding adds an unusual dimension to the position. Anthropic has not yet provided further comments on the initiative.
