BitGo Sued for $141 Million Over Alleged Early Token Release

BitGo, a digital asset custodian based in the United States, is facing a lawsuit seeking $141 million from two companies associated with DWF Labs, a Dubai-based digital asset market maker. The lawsuit, filed on October 2, 2026, alleges that BitGo breached a token lock-up agreement by releasing tokens before the agreed-upon period ended, which the plaintiffs claim led to a decline in the tokens' market value.

The plaintiffs argue that the early release of a significant block of tokens negatively impacted prices, a common concern in the cryptocurrency market where lock-up agreements are intended to stabilize prices after a token's listing. Such agreements prevent early investors from flooding the market with tokens immediately, which can lead to price volatility.

As of October 9, 2026, BitGo has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, and the allegations remain untested in court. This legal action adds to BitGo's growing list of disputes, including a significant breach-of-contract case with Galaxy Digital over a terminated $1.2 billion merger and a federal securities class action related to the company's share performance following its initial public offering earlier in 2026. The outcomes of these cases could have substantial implications for BitGo's financial standing and reputation in the digital asset industry.
