HIVE Digital Technologies Expands Hydro-Powered Campus in Paraguay to 400 MW

HIVE Digital Technologies is set to expand its hydroelectric data center campus in Yguazú, Paraguay, by adding 100 megawatts (MW) to its existing capacity. This Phase 3 expansion will bring the total capacity of the site to 400 MW, all sourced from the Itaipú Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the world. The company aims to complete this phase by the third quarter of 2026, which would make it the largest hydro-powered facility in Paraguay.

The expansion follows HIVE's previous phases, which saw the site grow from 200 MW in April 2025 to 300 MW in September 2025. Currently, the campus produces approximately 8.5 Bitcoin (BTC) per day. HIVE acquired the Yguazú data center from Bitfarms in January 2025 and has since invested over $400 million in its operations in Paraguay, with $130 million allocated specifically for construction costs.

In addition to Bitcoin mining, HIVE plans to establish a high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, with a dedicated AI factory expected to be operational in the second half of 2027. The company aims to increase its global Bitcoin mining capacity to 35 exahashes per second (EH/s) by the end of 2026, up from 22 EH/s as of October 2025. HIVE's operations in Paraguay are bolstered by the country's abundant hydroelectric power, allowing the company to secure competitive energy rates and contribute to the stability of the national grid.
