U.S. Announces $6 Billion Research Initiative with Major AI Contributions from Tech Firms

The White House has unveiled a significant research initiative with a total investment exceeding $6 billion, focusing on artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biological research, and talent development. This initiative, known as the Genesis Project, will draw funding and resources from various sectors, including government, enterprises, universities, and charitable organizations.

Eleven technology companies have pledged to contribute AI tools and computing power valued at $2.4 billion to the project. Notable commitments include $1 billion from NVIDIA, $500 million from AMD, $200 million from OpenAI, and $150 million each from Anthropic and Google. These contributions are intended to support research across more than 15 federal agencies.

Set to launch in 2025, the Genesis Project aims to leverage AI, supercomputers, and government research data to enhance research in critical areas such as energy, healthcare, and aerospace. The initiative also encompasses a previously announced $1.8 billion virtual biology program and a $1 billion investment in research computing power and talent development, which has been pledged by various stakeholders in Georgia.
