Polymarket CEO Discusses Future of Onchain Asset at TOKEN2049
Shayne Coplan, CEO of Polymarket, presented ideas for a utility-driven onchain asset during his appearance at TOKEN2049 in Singapore on October 7, 2026. While no token was launched, Coplan emphasized the potential for an asset with 'real programmable utility' that would be integrated into Polymarket's economy. His remarks were part of a broader theoretical discussion on the future of prediction markets and onchain finance, alongside notable figures such as Balaji Srinivasan.
During the session, Coplan described the envisioned asset as resembling an ideal design of stocks but refrained from providing specific details regarding its functions, timeline, or structure. He also clarified that his comments should not be construed as investment advice, indicating that the conversation was exploratory rather than promotional.
The interest in a potential token was heightened by revenue comparisons between Polymarket and its competitor Hyperliquid, with Polymarket reportedly generating approximately $9.9 million in revenue compared to Hyperliquid's $2.64 million. Despite previous trademark filings for POLY and $POLY, Polymarket currently has no native token as of the conference date.
The discussion at TOKEN2049 followed Polymarket's recent upgrade to Protocol V2, which introduced single ERC-1155 positions, allowing for more efficient management of multiple asset types onchain. The conference, running from October 7 to 8, 2026, featured various discussions on the evolution of prediction markets and the future of onchain finance.
